20230619 UCC AM Recap 20222023 [Posted: June 20, 2023]

Dear Members,

Thank you to everyone who attended the 2023 Annual Meeting in person or online last night.

We wanted to share with you the official voting results of the Election for three new Board members.  The results are as follows:

Michael Heap – 77 votes
Nilesh Hathi – 77 votes
Robert Cressatti – 71 votes
Miro Turcaj – 51 votes

Thank you members for taking part in this important vote and congratulations to Michael, Robert and Nilesh! Miro, we thank you for your interest in becoming a Board member, especially since you are new to the Club. There are lots of opportunities to become involved, so don’t be shy.

After the adjournment of the Annual Meeting the new Board members met to officially vote in a new President & Vice President.  We also received official commitments to important Executive and Board Positions.

For the 2023/2024 Season, please welcome;

Neil Salinas as President
Riet Verheggen as Vice President
Michael Heap as Director of Finance Directorate
Nilesh Hathi as Director of Planning Policies and Procedures Directorate
Alicia Ho-Fat has joined the Executive and Staff Relations Directorate

At our next Board meeting in July, 2023, the remaining vacant positions on the Board of Directors organizational structure will be filled/confirmed, including the Secretary of the Board, lead for Membership Liaison, Communications, Club Improvements, Club Events, Fundraising, Skills Enhancement, and the Volunteer Programs.

At this time, we would also like to acknowledge the significant contributions of our Past President James Nelson, and thank him for his many contributions to the club that have enhanced the UCC experience over his time on the Executive. His contributions and leadership have been vital pieces in moving the club forward over the last few years.  His focus was to lead Club improvements especially to the facility, and he certainly did that with making the changes to the locker rooms and washrooms (to name a few) early in his tenure. Thank you James!

As we look ahead, The Board is starting preparations for the upcoming season.   To recap what was shared at the AM last night here are the 2023/2024 priorities:

  • Increase Revenues
  • Focused Sponsorships
  • Improved Rentals Strategy
  • Increased Membership
  • Delivering the approved capital projects
  • Address Survey Results
  • Establish Governance Policies & Procedures

A vote was held to approve the Capital Investment of $111,488 (in addition, up to 10% contingency) to remove & reinstall insulation and siding of the UCC by T-ROC Renovators of Canada.   The vote by the Membership was an overwhelming majority in favour and the capital request is approved (with one vote opposed and one vote abstained).

Lastly, we anticipate registration for the new season to open on or around August 21, 2023. Stay tuned!

Thank you again to all members who took time out of their schedules to attend the meeting.  If we don’t see you till next season, have a wonderful summer. We are looking forward to the new season and will continue to update you to keep you informed of developments.
